We're all mature and reasonable here, so there's no reason why this should denegrate into bullshit. Post about a game or a series that you dislike (or even hate) no matter how popular. (Be constructive about it though). Let's all just say what we think, no matter how popular the game/series.

I really don't care for the God of War series. The presentation is great (perhaps even top notch), the enemy designs are sweet, Kratos is a cool character, and the Blades of Chaos are a pretty cool weapon.

That being said, as a hack n slash series, it's a total fucking failure. The combat is untechnical, stiff, button mashy, and repetitive. The games are replete with nonsensical quicktime events that take the action away from the player. There's extra button mashing for stupid things like opening chests and doors, there isn't much weapon variety, and the AI is lacking. The games are also too fucking easy, although, I fully admit I have never played one on Titan mode, as I just couldn't be bothered to beat either of the two I have played (GOW1 and COO on PSP) so I didn't unlock it.

I get why people leave the games, no doubt, but for someone like me, who's favourite genre is hack n slash (specifically because of the combat), when compared to Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, or Devil May Cry, God of War falls flat. It fails miserably.

Now, if someone combined the presentation of God of War with elements of NG/Bayonetta/DMC, you'd have a winner!

On an unrelated note, I don't like turn based combat, although Resonance of Fate interests me, and I may try it. I also don't particularly care for Zelda games (I know, I know!). I've played several of them (LOZ, TMC, OOT, MM, TWW, TTP, TPH) for varying lenghts of time, but they just don't do it for me. Not the fault of the games though. Just personal preference.

Now, what about you? Hate Ninja Gaiden? Halo? Final Fantasy? Think Heavy Rain is boring and has shitty controls? Think Mass Effect is an affront to real RPG's?

Have at it.

Let me just reply on that for a second.

It might seem that way, but you certainly have to know what your doing.
It's like DMC (and probably your loved Bayonetta as well), in that keeping your enemies in the air so you can juggle them around.
If your good, Kratos can kill a enemy without problems.
Let me just give you a brief scenario:

There is a armored enemy which I can't grab. So I (L1+ Circle) hook my blades in him and bash him, sending him flying backwards.
I (hold down Triangle) Uppercut him with my blades, let him fly airborne.
Jump after him and (L1+ square) for a aerial helicopter spin with blades.
Then I (circle) grab him in the air, bash him to the ground where his body finally gives up and dies.

A noob would just hack over and over, and lose 10% of the health bar and miss out on experience orbs.
Especially when you have multiple of these armored enemies.
It really takes some crowd control then.
And you have certain enemies which can't fly or do special attacks like going underground.
Of statues that can't feel pain and just keep coming at you, till they break.
Some of them requiring hit and run/dodge tactics or other stuff.

The games are replete with nonsensical quicktime events that take the action away from the player. There's extra button mashing for stupid things like opening chests and doors

Guilty as charged.
There has been some progress though.
It's way less then the first game.
In the first game, you have to mash a button to open a chest, now you just need to hold it down (small change but leads to great effects)

there isn't much weapon variety,

I'm seriously not going to list all the weapons.
But I'm going to hit you back with Bayonetta.
I don't see her wielding a armory?
Besides lots of weapons don't always make a good game or varied combat.

and the AI is lacking. The games are also too fucking easy, although, I fully admit I have never played one on Titan mode, as I just couldn't be bothered to beat either of the two I have played (GOW1 and COO on PSP) so I didn't unlock it.

Yes, well the AI doesn't have to be much more then monsters that spawn from the ground.
The boss fights do rely a lot on patterns, but easy?
I sorta guess so.
Most deaths in God of War come from awkward jumps (or blind spots on camera).
But not irritatingly easy.

I get why people leave the games, no doubt, but for someone like me, who's favourite genre is hack n slash (specifically because of the combat), when compared to Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, or Devil May Cry, God of War falls flat. It fails miserably.

It's strange because even though they play differently, most hack and slashes are pretty much the same (don't dare to deny).

And I find that crowd control, and choosing the right attack for the right enemy are things they do exactly the same.
I suppose that if God of War comes across as mindless mashing, people could pretty much say the same of Devil May Cry?
The only difference is that DMC rates you on style.

---------------------

I absolutely despise Fighting games.
I could never get a firm grip on games like Street Fighter 2.
And my frustration is all coming back to me with Street Fighter 4.

I bought Soul Caliber 4 though.
Just Because I thought it would be different from all the others.
And as long as you play it with friends, it's oke.
But these games really force you to learn stings of combo's and especially in the multiplayer some people can make move-spamming into a art.

I think that fighting is a part of a game.
And this genre is just some weird degenerate when people focus on pressing a lot of buttons to unleash a unavoidable attack.

Fighting can be a art, but you can't build a game around it.
Every mode is pretty much the same.

"Fight him for this"

It doesn't matter if your ascending levels or collecting something, it's always fighting someone for something.

And they cram a story in these things that is so fragile, it might as well be ignored.
Every story in every fighting game has someone rising to power.
It's like a copy of a copy of a copy.

I'm told that the Tekken-series has a full storyline and I see those cutscenes every once in a while.
But really, it's all big nonsense.

IMO, fighting games are just empty shells build around one concept of games.

I can't stand the Uncharted series. Nathan Drake is about as appealing as a white supremacist (and has assaulted about as many minorities as one), he's as smug as Donald Trump's shit wearing a monocle and tophat, and his so-called "witty dialogue" consists of him sarcastically saying "oh this is gonna be easy" when people start shooting at him. Seriously, his one-liners are fucking horrible, they're about as bad as "if you love it so much, why don't you marry it?" In fact, if Nathan Drake actually used that line, it would be considered a step up in his dialogue!

Not to mention my suspension of disbelief was shattered when he, who is supposed to be the typical boring "everyman" with no special talents whatsoever (the worst trend in gaming recently, fucking stupid-ass dipshit everymen) simultaneously scaled a moving train, fought off a helicopter and killed dozens of people who could have easily just unhooked the back sections of the train so Drake would be stranded. I mean, they obviously don't give a shit about the train itself if they have their own helicopter bomb the shit out of it!

Oh, and the fact that it's about as consistent as a drunk pathological liar with multiple personality disorder. In the ending of that train level, he gets shot ONCE with a fucking pistol and goes down like a bitch, when in the gameplay he shrugs off bullets like the bad guys are shooting paper spitwads at him because apparently Nathan "Everyman" Drake can regenerate like fucking Wolverine! Compare that to Mass Effect, where in the game when you get shot, your shields take the hit. Then in a cutscene from Bring Down The Sky, a guy shoots you once, and once again your fucking shields take the hit. THAT is fucking consistency!

None of the characters are likable for me, the gameplay seems lackluster, and the whole thing seems like a rip-off of Indiana Jones. In fact, comparing a great character like Indy to this fucking piece of soggy cunt Nathan Drake feels like an insult. People (even that one PS3 commercial with Kevin Butler) keep saying it's like an interactive movie, but if I were to judge it as a movie, it wouldn't even make it to straight-to-motherfucking-DVD! It's like Johnny Quest and National Treasure simultaneously skull-fucked Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the bloody ejaculate they scraped out of its eyesocket afterwards was molded into Uncharted.

Let's see... actually a very interesting topic, so i can't say i hate some games , i just don't care about them and all.
Well Tomb Raider series, the first time was fun, but later .. i dunno , just don't care.
Next issue all sports games , really i more prefer to do sport (if it possible) not play in games !
So , just little of my thoughts, i just don't care.
Btw, i prefer more DMC series than GOW, dunno just my taste.

FFXIII is extremely mediocre. It's got the basics down for a good FF game: An intriguing story, interesting and likeable cast, hot female characters, fantastic art-direction and good combat. But it's all so poorly executed. The game is incredibly linear, battles aside you're literally walking in a straight path from cutscene to cutscene. Normally this wouldn't exactly be a big problem, but couple this with the awful pacing and the fact that nothing compromises the combat in the gameplay department, it is.

And yeah, supposedly it opens up after 20 hours or so but that really doesn't justify the first 20 hours filled with tedious and repetetive gameplay.

Actually, it opens up after about 15 hours

Hehe. Seriosuly though, I'm not the one playing it, my wife is, but she said the same thing. She's like 40 hours in, she's enjoying it, but she says it's a letdown in mnay respects, namely, the linearity. And what the fuck? No towns???!!!

Craziness.
