Is $10 Too Expensive? 2 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
|
Shooter: $60
Eight hour campaign, co-op, mulitplayer, dozen weapons, unlockables, 12 maps, case, instruction manual, disc.
Map Pack: $10
3 maps.
Discrepancy much?
I say YES, ten dollars for a 3 map pack is outrageous and no one should be supporting that.
What do you guys think?

Well ... yes! I think it is! Sure, you could get hours and hours out of that map pack on multiplayer, though I strongly doubt it, but it's just a map pack! Anybody can make a map, upload it, share it and play it with other people! At least on the PC, which is my main gaming platform. Since you are obviously referring to MW2, I have to say that I stopped caring about CoD since the second installment. Shooters are just not my type of games =(

Same here. However, I was mistaken. The map pack in question was actually $15!!! Sure, it came with 5 maps as opposed to 3, but 2 were just ports from MW1 included to try and make the package seem more attractive. Essentially, IW stuffed their bra. The tits inside it were still lacking and overpriced.
$15 is almost 1/3 of $60 for fuck's sake! Ridiculous. I wish people would stop supporting Activision. They're a horrible company who care NOTHING for gaming. Sure, all companies must concern themselves with the bottom line, but these guys are sharks, at best,a nd evil fucks at worst. They're testing their limits, slowly ramping up the max price for everything, en route to their stated goal of $90 games and $20 map packs. They even want to charge COD fans to play COD online!

Yes.. It's ludicrously expensive.. However from an industrial standpoint I can understand Activision. They're treating gaming as a business, an industry, and the point of that is to make money. And if people would pay $15 for barely any new content then they'd do it...
Only a few developers like Blizzard and Valve place the consumer ahead of the consumer's money by giving free DLC, the stuff you get with Blizzard's patches could warrant content worth $15 and it's FREE. But if people will pay for it, they'll charge it. Maybe one day they'll go too far and the consumers won't pay for it and Activision'll drop the price a little. But with the popularity of CoD and the understanding the gamers who play CoD have of gaming as a whole, I doubt we'll see this for a while.
I still think Fallout 3 and Borderlands are some of the few games who do DLC right where the DLC is longer than 2 hours...

It is absolutely to expensive, at least to some of us. Unfortunately far to many gamers just pay the money for it anyways. They will continue to get gouged as long as they are dumb enough to pay. If very few jumped up to pay for it at that price I guarantee they would drop the price pretty quickly.

I have purchased 2 or 3 pieces of DLC since its inception. I'm incredibly picky. One of those was the latest Borderlands DLC. Ten hours of gameplay, 2 new vehicles, new area, tons of missions, etc etc etc etc for ten dollars. I found that to be very reasonable.

Only one I've purchased was one from Halo 3, one from CoD4 and one from Fallout 3.
I regret the Halo 3 and CoD4 DLC.. But not Fallout 3.
Its surprising to the see the amount of content in that piece of Borderlands DLC in comparison to the MW2 map-pack and its price difference..

Yes, it certainly is, and I wish more people would clue into this fact. Take the wind right from under Activision's sails.
I didn't even list all of the content in it, but even with that incomplete list, you can see that for ten dollars, it's quite a deal, especially relative to IW's/Activision's 15 dollar map pack.

Depends on many factors, prhaps it's expansion to game you consider a one of best? How many sleeples nights passed till you got that sacred title, well many different situation. More, the game type , if it is only bunch of arenas not bigger than your house or backyard then yes - it's not worth the price , in other cases and believe me there is many samples of those so called expansions it may be worth at least for some period.
But it's interesting topic. I shall wrote a blog.
